WIll you Believe? John 5 pt 5

For I am not alone, there is another who beareth witness of me, and I know that the testimony which he giveth of me is true.

34 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness also unto the truth.

35 And he received not his testimony of man, but of God, and ye yourselves say that he is a prophet, therefore ye ought to receive his testimony. These things I say that ye might be saved.

36 He was a burning and a shining light; and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

37 But I have a greater witness than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

38 And the Father himself who sent me, hath borne witness of me. And verily I testify unto you, that ye have never heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape;

39 For ye have not his word abiding in you; and him whom he hath sent, ye believe not.

40 Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me.

41 And ye will not come to me that ye might have life, lest ye should honor me.

42 I receive not honor from men.

43 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

44 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

45 How can ye believe, who seek honor one of another, and seek not the honor which cometh from God only?

46 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is Moses who accuseth you, in whom ye trust.

47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.

48 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Though we claim to know the Lord, though we claim to have his religion, we will not recognize His works when He is in front of us. And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord; First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.

John and Moses here are used to testify against the ruling class. John, as a recent prophet whom they heard and Moses as the restorer and foundational builder of their faith, upon which all their commandments were built. Today the Lord could say, read your Doctrine and Covenants, which Joseph compiled! They testify of me, yet you will not believe though I am here. Read Joseph Smith Matthew, there you will see the eagles gathering to a carcass in the desert. Read the Book of Mormon, in it us Mormon’ think we rely, yet it is full to the brim of this doctrine, that the Lord Jesus is God and will return the final harvesting time to the vineyard with the other Servants. So much so that once we are willing to see it, that testimony in in every book.

It will be enough though, as His works will testify of Himself as He does them. Though He will largely be marginalized, His presence will be ultimately polarizing, testifying that His work and Voice are of God.

Though we claim His name, we do so in vain! The Servant will again testify to those who should know but will not hear, who have taken His name in vain, that they do not know Him. We profess to know His name, but have not known him.

And the Father himself who sent me, hath borne witness of me. And verily I testify unto you, that ye have never heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape; For ye have not his word abiding in you; and him whom he hath sent, ye believe not. ( John 5)
