Our perception and lifestyle do not match what the prophets had in mind;
“Brother Joseph Smith gave us the word of the Lord; it was simply this: `Never do another day’s work to build up a Gentile city never lay out another dollar while you live, to advance the world in its present state; it is full of wickedness and violence; no regard is paid to the prophets, nor the prophecyings of the prophets, nor to Jesus nor his sayings, nor the word of the Lord that was given anciently, nor to that given in our day. They have gone astray, and they are building up themselves, and they are promoting sin and iniquity upon the earth; and,’ said he, `it is the word and commandment of the Lord to his servants that they shall never do another day’s work, nor spend another dollar to build up a Gentile city’” (Brigham Young, J.D. 11:294-295)”
HOw do we fulfill this commandment?
Steve,
The way I see it, if we actually tried to do it, it would happen. We need a group with authority who are willing to let go and endowed with power.
The first step in my opinion, since we are at this moment a far cry (though perhaps not time wise) from it, is for individuals to reject the ideals of exaltation common in this culture. For family groups and friends to fight back and step out of the culture as much as possible, to seek the Lords help in doing so. IT’s going to take a whole lot of worldly Poverty before we are blessed with the riches of Zion. Might as well start now.
just having the right mindset, and a lot of prayer, will go along ways.
I think the biggest point to be made is to educate and preach repentance concerning these principles to a people who should be aware but are completely ignorant of these facts.
in general terms: the choices we make on a daily basis couldn’t possibly be bad…we work to provide for ourselves and our families..we are becoming educated and finding great jobs. But how completely wrong we are…our minds are clouded, closed and our hearts hardened to what is truly right. Hardened to what choices will truly bring to pass the building of zion and not bablyon.
great laura! and good to have you for sure.
Thats the gist of it. We work for the “I” and for profit. whereas community should be the goal. and only one community is worth caring about and living for, that of zion.
